If you're heading off on an airplane trip, be sure to carry your diabetes care medication and paraphernalia with you as carry-on luggage. If the flight is delayed and your diabetes supplies are in the cargo hold, they won't be of much use to you if you suddenly need it.

In the event of a low blood sugar -- a common side effect of diabetes care -- you'll need a quick snack to get yourself back on an even keel. You should always carry snacks with you just in case, especially candy bars; glucose tablets are also a good choice.

Before you go on an airplane with your diabetes supplies, get a note from your diabetes care doctor explaining to the airport and airline personnel that you need to take your syringes aboard. Otherwise they may be reluctant to let you on the plane, especially if it's an international flight.
