For two days before your Pap test or ob gyn exam, don't use any tampons, douche or have intercourse. Any of these activities can abrade your cervix and throw off your pH balance, which can affect your test. Be sure to bathe before your exam, but don't overdo it with the soap.

It may seem embarrassing, but your doctor needs to be able to smell as well as see you during your ob gyn exam. For this reason, don't use any strong-smelling soap or body wash when you bath on the day of your exam, and don't wear perfume.

Despite their claims, home pregnancy tests aren't perfect. If you get a negative, test again a week later. If you can't wait that long, you can always go to your ob gyn clinic for a blood test. It may cost a bit, but it can tell you if you're pregnant the very first day of your missed period.
