Having an extra wheel or tire on hand is always a good idea if you're in a wheelchair, especially if you're traveling. If you don't have one and need one, pop into a bicycle shop; they may be able to repair or acquire one for you, or help you find someone who can.

If you simply can't afford all the medical equipment you need, you're a prime candidate for government insurance such as Medicare or Medicaid. Don't feel embarrassed to apply for it; that's what it exists for. If you're turned down, appeal your case or apply again.

One of the best ways to find quality medical equipment is to ask around among the other people you know who use it -- friends, family, co-workers, etc. They'll be able to offer you leads on what brands and vendors to use, not to mention candid assessments of both.
